Irrational or unusual fear is an issue that many children with autism and their families struggle with every day.

These fears often cause extreme stress, and can impact the entire family.

In many cases, caretakers try to fix the problem with a temporary solution – trying to create an environment which limits or eliminates the possibility of their child being exposed to their fear. However, this can have a negative impact on a child’s daily life, and set up situations later in life that could be extremely problematic.

In order to help your child overcome irrational fears, there are three steps you should take.

Step One: Identify two factors that suggest necessary action needs to be taken when your child has an irrational fear.

Step Two: Complete three pre-intervention steps that help make success more likely. (Details provided in the training video)

Step Three: Implement the steps necessary to help your child overcome their fear(s).

For practical, proven techniques to help your child overcome these fears, review our training video “Overcoming Irrational Fears” here!
