THE FOUNDATION FOR AUTISM TRAINING & EDUCATION
...NO CHILD WITH AUTISM LEFT BEHIND

Assessing and Improving Functional Communication: Overview of the VB-MAPP
Children with autism MUST be properly assessed in order to obtain a baseline level of performance, provide a direction for intervention, and monitor progress. Using an inadequate assessment or no assessment at all can lead to the teaching of unnecessary skills and/or inappropriate skills. The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), authored by Dr. Mark L. Sundberg, is a criterion-referenced assessment tool, curriculum guide, and skill-tracking system. It provides teachers and parents with an effective means of assessing the learning, language, and social skills of children with autism or other developmental disabilities.
This workshop is designed to give participants an overview of the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP). Specifically, participants will be able to:
-
Distinguish between the five components of the VB-MAPP: Milestones Assessment, Barriers Assessment, Transition Assessment, Task Analysis and Skills Tracking, and Placement and IEP Goals.
-
Explain how to conduct the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP)
-
Discuss appropriate programming options for a variety of individual VB-MAPP profiles.
Registration is not currently open for this training. However, we highly recommend the DVD version of this training by Thomas M. Caffrey, M.Ed., BCBA found here.
