Many children with autism have limited or narrow interests.  A lack of appropriate ways to occupy time can result in an increase in self-stimulatory behavior, limited social interactions, and fewer opportunities to teach functional communication and other important skills.

 

The presenter will demonstrate, through use of video case studies, how the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) can be applied effectively to pair new activities with positive reinforcement which can expand your child’s interests.

Specifically, participants will be able to:

 

• List 3 benefits of expanding a child’s interests and activities.

• Describe how to choose new interests and activities to be developed.

• Implement the steps involved in developing new interests and activities.
